Why you would need a fractional CIO
A fractional CIO is a senior IT leader who works inside your business part-time. They own your IT strategy, budget, security and suppliers, and you don't pay for a full-time executive.
Most businesses start looking for a fractional CIO once IT has grown beyond what an IT manager or managed service provider can steer by themselves. Spend creeps up each year and systems don't talk to each other. The board starts asking about cyber risk, and nobody on the leadership team can say with confidence whether the money is going to the right places.
I've led technology for 253 companies, from enterprise transformation programs to growing businesses running on a patchwork of SaaS tools. I lead every engagement personally. When a project needs engineers, I bring in my 26-strong team across software, cloud, AI and security.
CLIENTS I'VE WORKED WITH
One person accountable for your IT
I set your IT strategy and budget, and I answer for both to your leadership team and board.
Someone who speaks both languages
I talk budget and risk with your leadership, and technical detail with your IT team and providers.
Control over suppliers and spend
I review your MSP, software licences and contracts, and I hold every provider to what they promised. Unused licences and overlapping tools tend to show up early.
IT the business can rely on
I make sure your systems are in good shape and that you know where the weak spots are. You get a written plan for what needs fixing first, and security is part of that plan.

FAQ
What are the signs my business needs a fractional CIO?
IT costs keep rising without a clear reason, your systems don't share data, a cyber incident or audit has exposed gaps, or you rely on an MSP with nobody senior checking its work. Another is a major project, such as an ERP or CRM rollout, that has no one on your side who owns the outcome.
What's the difference between a fractional CIO and a fractional CTO?
A CIO looks after the technology your business runs on, including systems, infrastructure, security, data and suppliers. A CTO looks after technology your business builds and sells, such as software products and platforms. Plenty of mid-sized businesses need some of both, and I cover both.
How much does a fractional CIO cost compared to a full-time CIO?
A full-time CIO in Sydney typically costs $250k–$450k a year once salary, super and recruitment are factored in. A fractional CIO gives you the same senior decision-making and accountability for a set number of days a month, at a fraction of the cost.
Will you replace our IT manager or managed service provider?
I work with them. I set direction and check that what they deliver is sound. If a provider isn't performing, I can run a fair review and manage the move to a better fit.
What happens if we already have an in-house engineering team or a vendor?
I work closely with them, setting direction and checking that decisions and delivery are sound. If you don't have an engineering team in place, I can bring my own team of engineers to fill that gap rather than leaving you to hire and manage one separately.
